La Guarida Ranch encompasses 20,000 acres (8,000 ha) located in the Tinaja Verde mountains, approximately 35 miles southwest of Presidio, TX., which is a historic territory of the desert bighorn sheep. The Mexican Desert bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis mexicana) became extinct from the state of Chihuahua during the 1960s. La Guarida Ranch was acquired in 1981 with the purpose to reintroduce the desert sheep to its original and historical habitats. With much dedication and perseverance the ranch was able get the first breeding stock until the year 2000. Today the ranch has around 300 animals and has reintroduced the desert bighorn sheep to another two ranches on its historical habitats in the state of Chihuahua. Read More
